General Engineer - Federal Medical Center (Houston)

The role

Licensed professional engineer embedded with the facilities team at a large federal medical center in Houston. You provide the engineering judgment behind planning, design review, construction and infrastructure projects, and you make sure the work happens without putting patients or staff at risk.

What you will own

• Professional engineering support for planning, scoping and executing construction, renovation and infrastructure projects, in compliance with federal healthcare design guides, NFPA 101, NFPA 99, Joint Commission standards and other applicable codes.
• Review design and construction documents from A/E firms and contractors for technical adequacy, code compliance, constructability and impact on live healthcare operations; issue written review comments and comment matrices.
• Develop and maintain project documentation: concepts, scopes, cost estimates, schedules, risk registers and justifications in the facility's capital planning systems.
• Coordinate with clinical services, facilities management, safety and infection control to sequence work, plan outages and mitigate risk in patient care areas; produce risk and mitigation summaries for construction affecting those areas.
• Forensic and root-cause analysis of facility system failures or performance issues, with engineering reports and technical memoranda recommending corrective actions or capital improvements.
• Project oversight from inception to completion to the facility's technical standards.

What we require

• Current Professional Engineer (PE) license from a US state, territory or the District of Columbia.
• Five years of experience within your discipline in a hospital setting.
• Fluent spoken and written English, with documentation of competency, skills and licensure available on request.
• Able to meet the testing and immunization standards that apply to staff in a healthcare environment (TB screening, immunizations).
• Authorized to work in the United States (E-Verify) and able to pass a federal background check and facility access requirements.
• Completion of the facility's mandatory onboarding and safety training on start.

Hours and coverage

• Full-time, 2,080 hours per year, on site.
• The facility runs 24 hours a day. Shifts are 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, 3:30 pm to 12:00 am and 11:30 pm to 8:00 am.
• Federal holidays are observed by the facility, but you may be scheduled to work them.
• Continuity matters to this client: the assigned team is expected to stay in place through at least the first 90 days.
