Licensed Electrician - Federal Medical Center (Houston)

The role

Journey-level electrician on the in-house facilities team at a large federal medical center in Houston. You keep normal and emergency power running across a 24-hour hospital campus, from medium-voltage switchgear down to patient bedside power.

What you will own

• Install, modify, repair and maintain normal and emergency electrical distribution: panels, switchgear, feeders, branch circuits, lighting and receptacles, medium voltage up to 12,470/4,160 V and low voltage 480/277/208/120 V, to the National Electrical Code.
• Maintain and troubleshoot emergency power (generators, transfer switches, paralleling switchgear, load banks, UPS and power conditioners), motor control centers, variable frequency drives and the controls serving HVAC, elevators, medical gas and other critical equipment.
• Preventive maintenance on motors, generators, breakers and controls: insulation resistance testing, cleaning, lubrication and component replacement.
• Diagnose faults with multimeters, meggers, insulation testers and power quality meters; run breaker, generator and load bank, and battery tests as requested.
• Support power to clinical and specialty equipment: operating rooms, cath labs, imaging, sterilizers, laboratory and nuclear medicine, isolated power systems and line isolation monitors, building automation, PLCs and power metering.
• Give electrical design and constructability input to the site engineer and project managers on construction and renovation work.
• Keep the records current: work orders and PM completion records, redlined as-built markups to the electrical drawings, and outage and incident reports with root cause and corrective actions.
• Back up the fire and security alarm technician and the building automation desk as needed, including dispatching service calls and updating equipment logs.

What we require

• Current, full and unrestricted electrician's license from a US state, territory or the District of Columbia.
• Journey-level experience across normal and emergency distribution systems, including medium-voltage equipment.
• Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code.
• Fluent spoken and written English, with documentation of competency, skills and licensure available on request.
• Able to meet the testing and immunization standards that apply to staff in a healthcare environment (TB screening, immunizations).
• Authorized to work in the United States (E-Verify) and able to pass a federal background check and facility access requirements.
• Completion of the facility's mandatory onboarding and safety training on start.

What will set you apart

• Hospital or other 24-hour critical facility experience, including isolated power and line isolation monitors.
• Generator and paralleling switchgear experience.
• Building automation, PLC and VFD troubleshooting; solar PV and inverter experience.

Hours and coverage

• Full-time, 2,080 hours per year, on site.
• The facility runs 24 hours a day. Shifts are 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, 3:30 pm to 12:00 am and 11:30 pm to 8:00 am, and evening and night shifts carry a differential.
• Federal holidays are observed by the facility, but you may be scheduled to work them.
• Continuity matters to this client: the assigned team is expected to stay in place through at least the first 90 days.
