Maintenance Mechanic - Federal Medical Center (Houston)

The role

Multi-trade mechanic on the facilities team at a large federal medical center in Houston: preventive and corrective maintenance across carpentry, minor electrical, plumbing, HVAC and finishes, working independently from drawings, specifications and work orders.

What you will own

• Multi-trade preventive and corrective maintenance on building systems, following established work orders and PM schedules.
• Routine inspections of building spaces, mechanical rooms and equipment; identify deficiencies and initiate or complete corrective work orders.
• Maintain and repair pumps, valves, doors, fixtures and small mechanical components, working from drawings, specifications and verbal instructions.
• Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and failures, determine the extent of repairs and the parts and materials needed, choose the best method and trade practice, and complete the repair or overhaul.
• Select and safely use the right tools, devices, manuals and references; independently diagnose, plan and complete routine projects and work orders.
• Support the HVAC, plumbing and electrical trades on larger repairs and shutdowns.
• Use the CMMS (Maximo or similar) to receive, update and close work orders, and to document labor, materials, inspection findings and PM checklists.

What we require

• Any license or certification your trade requires, current and unrestricted, from a US state, territory or the District of Columbia.
• Proven multi-trade maintenance experience with the judgment to work independently.
• Fluent spoken and written English, with documentation of competency, skills and licensure available on request.
• Able to meet the testing and immunization standards that apply to staff in a healthcare environment (TB screening, immunizations).
• Authorized to work in the United States (E-Verify) and able to pass a federal background check and facility access requirements.
• Completion of the facility's mandatory onboarding and safety training on start.

What will set you apart

• Hospital or other 24-hour critical facility experience.
• CMMS experience, ideally Maximo.
• A journeyman license in one of the core trades.

Hours and coverage

• Full-time, 2,080 hours per year, on site.
• The facility runs 24 hours a day. Shifts are 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, 3:30 pm to 12:00 am and 11:30 pm to 8:00 am.
• Federal holidays are observed by the facility, but you may be scheduled to work them.
• Continuity matters to this client: the assigned team is expected to stay in place through at least the first 90 days.
